HOW WE PLANTED 1 MILLION TREES

1 Million Trees Planted!

A "Small Actions Create Big Impact" Tale

At Friendsheep, we are driven by a deep love for the Earth, the ocean, wildlife, people, and all living beings. Our mission goes far beyond creating eco-friendly products - we strive to make a real, lasting impact on the world around us.

And today, a few days short of Earth Day 2025, we are celebrating a truly extraordinary milestone: 1 MILLION TREES PLANTED!

This achievement wouldn't have been possible without you - our amazing community of eco champions - and our One Item = One Tree pledge, which we launched in 2019 in partnership with Eden: People+Planet (formerly Eden Reforestation Projects).

From the very first tree to this incredible milestone, each purchase - whether a set of Eco Dryer Balls, an Eco Pet Toy, or an Eco Freshener - has contributed to reforesting the planet, supporting communities, and restoring vital ecosystems.

Why We Partnered with Eden: People + Planet

When choosing an organization to partner with, Eden: People + Planet stood out for their commitment to not just reforestation, but also social empowerment. Their motto, “Plant Trees. Save Lives.”, resonated deeply with us.

Eden doesn’t just plant trees, they create long-term, sustainable change by employing local people in areas suffering from extreme deforestation. These individuals become stewards of their land, earning fair wages while helping restore the environment. The result? Stronger communities, healthier ecosystems, and a greener future for all.

Why Madagascar?

Eden works in multiple countries, but we chose to focus our efforts on Madagascar for three key reasons:

Unique biodiversity: Madagascar is home to over 200,000 plant and animal species, with 75% found nowhere else on Earth.

Massive deforestation: More than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing wildlife and making it increasingly difficult for local communities to live off the land.

Mangrove Restoration. Rebuilding a Vital Ecosystem

One of the most crucial areas of reforestation in Madagascar is its mangrove forests, which play a critical role in the health of both marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

  1. Natural Coastal Protectors – Mangroves act as natural barriers against storms, cyclones, and coastal erosion by stabilizing shorelines with their dense root systems. Without them, Madagascar’s coastal communities face increased flooding, land loss, and habitat destruction.

  2. Biodiversity Hotspots – These forests serve as nurseries for marine life, providing shelter and breeding grounds for fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and other aquatic species. Many of these species support local fisheries, making mangroves essential for both food security and economic stability.

  3. Carbon Storage Powerhouses – Mangrove forests are among the most effective ecosystems for carbon sequestration, capturing and storing up to four times more carbon per hectare than tropical rainforests. This makes them a powerful natural solution in the fight against climate change.

  4. Reviving Local Communities – When mangrove forests disappear, fish populations decline, and the delicate balance of the ecosystem collapses, leaving coastal communities without sustainable resources. By restoring these forests, we help revive ecosystems that support both people and wildlife, ensuring long-term stability for generations to come.

Through our partnership with Eden: People + Planet, we’re working to bring back these essential forests, one tree at a time.

A Movement for Change

Four years ago, we celebrated planting 300,000 trees. Today, we stand at 1 MILLION TREES PLANTED - an incredible testament to the power of small actions multiplied over time.

This milestone represents more than just trees, it’s about hope, resilience, and the collective impact of a conscious community. It proves that:

  • Supporting small businesses that prioritize sustainability makes a difference.
  • Choosing eco-friendly alternatives in daily life leads to real change.
  • Believing in a better future—even when things seem dark—allows us to create one.
  • Together, we have restored forests, rebuilt communities, and proven that sustainability and social responsibility go hand in hand.

Beyond Trees. Our Ongoing Commitment to the Planet

Planting trees is just one part of our mission. At Friendsheep, we:

  • Use 100% compostable, plastic free, recyclable packaging to eliminate waste.
  • Offset all carbon emissions from shipping through our partnership with ClimeCo.
  • Support children’s hospitals, animal rescues, and nature conservation projects.
  • Provide fair-trade employment to hundreds of women and disabled artisans.
  • Give back through 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of all gross sales to environmental nonprofits.

And we’re just getting started.

What’s Next? A Future Without Limits

This 1 million tree milestone is proof that when we come together with a shared mission, we can achieve the extraordinary. But we’re not stopping here.

Our next goal? More trees, more reforestation, less plastic in ocean and landfills. More sustainability, more equality, more diversity, more positive impact. And we know we can do it, with you by our side.

Every purchase plants a tree. Every small action leads to big change. Together, we are limitless.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Onward we grow - one tree at a time.

America Recycles Day: Beyond the Bin
America Recycles Day: Beyond the Bin

November 15, 2024

Recycling is vital for reducing waste and conserving resources, but it’s not enough to solve the plastic crisis. Less than 10% of the 460 million metric tons of plastic produced annually is effectively recycled. Most plastic ends up in landfills, incinerators, or polluting rivers and oceans, contributing to global environmental damage. The real solution lies in reducing plastic consumption, embracing reusable alternatives, and pushing for systemic changes that prioritize sustainability over single-use convenience. This Recycling Day, let’s rethink our relationship with plastic and advocate for meaningful change. 🌍

From Rescue to Companion: Valeria and Her Service Dog Pongo

October 01, 2024

At Friendsheep, we are dedicated to supporting rescue organizations that save dogs from the shelter system, where many animals end up due to irresponsible breeding and lack of education among pet owners. Pongo, a black Labrador, is one such dog who began life loved but quickly found himself in unimaginable circumstances. After years of neglect and abuse, he was saved from euthanasia by West Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue (WCLRR). Despite being seen as “damaged,” Pongo was adopted by Friendsheep founder Valeria Isaacs and her family. With love, training, and patience, Pongo transformed from a traumatized rescue into a brilliant service dog, proving that adoption can change lives. His story is a testament to the importance of giving rescue animals a second chance. Adopt, don’t shop.
